I have played clarinet, flute and saxes for most of my adult life until rock and roll and DJ's put most of Australia's casual muicians out of the picture. .
Somewhat over five years ago (- January 2001 - after blowing the same clarinet for thirty odd years) I sort of fell across
a new Selmer 10S which had lain in a music warehouse in Melbourne for some twenty years .So different was it from what I had been used to it was like a sort of epiphany experience that inspired me to attempt an AMEB grade 8 exam. The only other exam I had ever done was thirty odd years ago.
Anyway, to cut a long story, I passed (not brilliantly), the exam and - for one who is NOT a good sight reader - commenced to play in the local Napier Chamber orchestra in late 2002.
That is still the case as of this page update in September, 2007
On top of that I am playing a fair bit of standards, jazz, swing etc whenever and wherever the opportunity offers..
It's an ongoing saga and I hope it keeps ongoing for a while yet despite a small hiccup with lung cancer in early 2006.
